Couple Miss Irish Lotto Millions with Girlfriend’s Wrong Birthday!
It’s a story that has happened to all of us, but maybe never quite in this way.
In a recent Irish Lotto draw a couple from Dublin were 2 numbers away for the jackpot – the problem was that the girlfriend thought they had won it all! The Irish Lotto draw from March 15th 2017 should have been a moment of celebration for the young couple, but instead it was just the beginning of nightmare situation.
Alex, 29 from Dublin bought the Irish Lotto ticket from a local convenience store for him and his girlfriend, Tanya. They played the numbers that they had spoken about a few nights before over dinner. “We had to pick 7 Irish Lotto Numbers, so we thought, my birthday, her birthday and were both math geeks so, we picked the 3 highest prime numbers available: 41, 43 & 47”
All seemed to be going well until the Irish Lotto Results came out. Alex got his girlfriend’s birthday wrong, instead of choosing the numbers 9 & 2 (Tanya’s birthday is February 9th), Alex chose 10 & 3. So, when the results came in: 2, 6, 9, 31, 41, 47 & 43 Alex couldn’t believe what had happened.
“I still can’t believe it to this day. I know her birthday, we’ve been together for 3 years!” This mistake cost the couple a lot of Irish Lotto millions. Instead of matching 6 numbers and staking their claim to a €7.3 million jackpot, the couple had to settle for matching 4 numbers and the bonus ball resulting in a cash windfall of €179…How do you explain that sort of mistake to Tanya when you get home.
We spoke to Alex over the weekend, and despite not being in the best mood about his missing Irish Lotto millions he was more than willing to talk to us over the phone. “I don’t think that I am ever going to live this one down…we only just celebrated her birthday last month!” Alex seemed able to laugh about it but accepted that it was pure stupidity and lack of thinking of his part.
“I’ve told her that from now on she can buy all the tickets, I know that ill never forget her birthday again though, Irish Lotto millions or not.”
